Supporting Recovery through Compassion: The Importance of Trauma Informed Care
January 26 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am PST
Throughout 2024, we will be hosting monthly CE opportunities online. With 4 unique series topics, you’ll have the opportunity to dive deeper into mental health and addiction education through each layer of training. The first series, starting this month, is The Importance of Trauma-Informed Care in Behavioral Health.
Part 1 of this 3-part series will be held on January 26th with limited capacity. You do not need to attend all three parts to attend this training, as each will offer comprehensive information. Sr. Vice President of Clinical Services, Trish Caldwell, is once again leading the conversation and excited to grow our online education community.
Research continues to highlight the correlation between exposure to traumatic experiences, especially those occurring in childhood, and the development of substance use disorders (SUDs). Neurobiology shows that traumatic events affect the brain at the time of the event and over the lifespan. As the behavioral health profession continues to see increased demands for treatment it becomes imperative for the field to better understand this link. This training focuses on aspects to improve the co-occurring treatment of trauma and substance abuse issues as well as the integration of both issues when only one condition is under treatment. Using the standards from SAMHSA’s Trauma-Informed Approach, attendees will have a strong set of skills to treat clients who struggle with historically challenging yet far too common conditions. Evidence-based practices will be identified and foundational skills will be practiced during the training.
The event will allow attendees to:
1. Define SAMHSA’s trauma-informed principles
2. Explore the impact on the neurobiology of substance use and trauma
3. Recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in patients, families, and staff
4. Develop a working knowledge of evidenced-based practices to use for those impacted by trauma and substance use
