Abstract:<\/strong>
\nThere are over 30,000 deaths by suicide each year. Eating disorders have the second highestmortality rate of any mental health disorder. Treating patients with both an eating disorder and risk for suicide can be challenging for clinicians. This presentation breaks down the process of caring for patients with suicidal ideation. We will begin with basic epidemiological information on suicide in adults, children, and adolescents and discuss recent trends. We will review data on death by suicide in patients with eating disorders. Next, we\u2019ll discuss how to take a risk assessment for suicide. After we discuss and practice making suicide risk assessments, we will explore specific therapeutic interventions, including means restriction, collaborative assessment, suicide management, and dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as well as pharmacological and neuromodulation interventions. Additionally, we will explore the role of hospitalization. Finally, we will discuss the aftermath of a patient\u2019s death by suicide, including phone calls with family members and risk management considerations.<\/p>\n

Objectives:<\/strong>
\n– Learn to complete a thorough suicide assessment that gives the clinician an idea of risk and places to intervene
\n– Understand how to create a treatment plan using pharmacological interventions, specific therapeutic modalities, structuring of environment, neuromodulation treatments, and when to seek a higher level of care for suicide risk.
\n– Discuss ways to support both individual clinicians and organizations if a patient dies by suicide.<\/p>\n

Abstract:<\/strong>
\nWithout balanced nutrition and food flexibility, the brain cannot adequately communicate with the rest of your body. Among other things, this greatly affects changes in behavioral health. The theme of food flexibility can be applied to fit the needs and diagnoses in behavioral health; mental health, substance use disorders, and eating disorders. Behavioral health is positively impacted when we can neutralize how we see food, use a non-diet approach, and learn how to eat without judgment. This presentation will identify how each diagnosis can benefit from nutrition intervention, balanced eating, and nutrient rehabilitation, all within the lens of focusing on food flexibility. We will also explore the different aspects of food flexibility and how it can be applied to behavioral health.<\/p>\n

Objectives:<\/strong>
\n– Identify what food flexibility is and how it can be applied differently within the different behavioral health diagnoses
\n– Define nutrition psychiatry and outline the necessary nutrients for brain function and neurotransmitter production
\n– Explain the connection between food and mood in relation to the neurotransmitters
