Approaching Care with Care: The Clinical Assessment Process
January 19 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am PST
The first step for a patient on their path to recovery is a clinical assessment. The assessment should explore how an individual is functioning on all fronts, seeking to understand their goals and concerns. After screening, a level of care for optimal treatment outcomes is identified and carefully explained. In this presentation, we will review what is to be asked during the assessment (and why), how a level of care recommendation is determined, and how you can act as an assessment ally for your client, loved one, or yourself.
The target audience for this continuing education program is mental health providers and clinicians working with individuals with mental health diagnoses. Materials are appropriate for learners with an introductory level of understanding about mental health concerns.
Educational Objectives
Following this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Discuss how to prepare patients for the assessment process and serve as an “assessment ally”
- Describe the essential content of an assessment and the reasoning behind the assessment questions
- Explain how a level of care recommendation is determined
